Opening Ceremony
The opening
ceremony will be held at the Great Hall of the University of
Helsinki (address: Unioninkatu 34 by the Senate Square, see the
map) on Saturday, 13 July 2002 at 18:00. There will be a
possibility to register for the Congress before the opening
ceremony in the lobby of the Great Hall.
Congress Venue
The 7th European
Congress of Neuropathology will be held at the Biomedicum
Helsinki, a biomedical research centre of the University of
Helsinki (address: Haartmaninkatu 8), located at about 10
minutes’ distance from the centre of Helsinki by tram number
4, see the map.

Registration Desk
Participants may
pick up their material at the registration desk, which will be
open as follows:
• Saturday, 13 July 2002 from 16:30 to 19:00 (in the lobby of
the Great Hall of the University of Helsinki, Senate Square, see
the map)
• Sunday, 14 July 2002 from 8:00 to 17:00 (at the Biomedicum
Helsinki, see the map)
• Monday, 15 July 2002 from 8:00 to 17:00 (at the Biomedicum
Helsinki)
• Tuesday, 16 July 2002 from 8:00 to 17:00 (at the Biomedicum
Helsinki)
The Congress
Secretariat will be available to assist you during the Congress
at the Biomedicum Helsinki. Please do not hesitate to contact
the Congress Secretariat for help or advice.
Commercial
Exhibition
There will be a
possibility for a commercial exhibition next to the congress
halls and poster area at the Biomedicum Helsinki for companies
interested in exhibiting during the Congress. The exhibition
will be open throughout the meeting hours.
Transportation by
Air
There are direct
flight connections to Helsinki from most European capitals as
well as excellent intercontinental connections. Please contact
your travel agency or airline for flight information.
Transportation by
Sea
Helsinki is
easily reached by ferries from Stockholm, Sweden (overnight by
Silja Line and Viking Line) and from Tallinn, Estonia (several
lines, 1.5 to 3.5 hours). The daily connections between Helsinki
and Stockholm through the gorgeous archipelago are practical for
those continuing to Stockholm to the 8th International
Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders on
20-25 July 2002.
Airport
Transportation
Finnair provides
regular bus transportation between the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport
and the City Terminal near the Railway Station at a cost of
approximately EUR 5. Taxis between the Airport and the Helsinki
city centre cost approximately EUR 30 (30 minutes). Group taxis
are also available at the airport (Yellow Line and Airport Taxi,
cost approximately EUR 15 per person).
Public
Transportation
Helsinki has an
excellent public transportation network of buses, trams and
underground trains. The congress venue will be easily reached by
tram number 4 from all congress hotels. More information about
these options will be provided to the participants upon
registration.
Lunch and
Refreshments
Lunches are
included in the participants’ registration fee and will be
served at the Biomedicum Helsinki. Complimentary coffee, tea and
other refreshments will also be available in the foyer during
the breaks.
Postal and
Telecommunications Services
Postal, telephone
and telefax facilities will be available at all hotels. Internet
connection will be available at the Congress Venue.
Climate and
Clothing
The average
day-time temperature in Finland in July is around 20°C (70°F).
Evenings may be cooler. There is a risk of occasional rain
showers. It is advisable to bring some warm clothes with you.
Helsinki for
Visitors
Shopping areas as
well as museums and other attractions will offer plenty to see
for participants travelling with accompanying persons and
families. Enduring favourites with kids are Linnanmäki
Amusement Park and Korkeasaari Zoo. For more tourist information

Liability and
Insurance
The Organising
Committee will not assume any responsibility for damage or
injuries to persons or property during the Congress. It is
recommended that participants and accompanying persons arrange
for personal travel and health insurance.
